Karen G. Youmans, MPA, RHIA, CCS
Karen G. Youmans, MPA, RHIA, CCS is the President of YES HIM Consulting, Inc., based in Largo, Florida. Ms. Youmans has over 25 years experience in the Healthcare environment and the HIM and Coding profession. She was previously the Executive Vice President of Pyramid Healthcare Solutions, Inc.   Ms. Youmans' career has also included Instructor/Assistant Professor, RHIA program, University of Central Florida; Program Director, RHIT program, St. Petersburg Junior College; and Practice Manager, Coding products and services with AHIMA.  Ms. Youmans has been an HIM and Coding consultant in various capacities including all aspects of HIM operations, Interim Management, Revenue Cycle improvement projects, ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 Coding Education, Legal Health Record, Document Management & the Electronic Health Record implementations.  Ms. Youmans obtained her MPA in Healthcare Administration from Golden Gate University; BA in Health Information Administration from the College of St. Scholastica; and her AAS in Medical Record Technology from Sinclair Community College (Dayton, OH). She has provided numerous presentations on the local, state, and national levels on a variety of topics included ICD-10 implementation, ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 coding education, and Revenue Cycle improvement projects.  Her clients include small to large hospitals, healthcare systems, and encoding vendors.  Karen is the Past-President of the Florida Health Information Management Association and served on the AHIMA Board of Directors. Karen attended the October 2009 AHIMA Academy for ICD-10 and is an AHIMA-approved ICD-10-CM / PCS trainer.  
 
 

Patricia Ashley, LVN, CCS, CCDS


Patti has over 25 years experience in coding.  Her experience includes Quality Assurance reviews, Utilization review, Inpatient compliance audits, RAC appeals process, Quality of Care/ Medical Necessity audits, and Coding education.  Patti’s previous positions include Co-owner of a Coding Auditing company and Manager Audit Division of a national consulting firm.  Patti is an ICD-9 inpatient coding auditing national expert.  She is an active member of AHIMA, CHIA, and the Association of Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists.  Patti comes to us with a wealth of knowledge and experience.  She is scheduled to attend the AHIMA ICD-10 Academy to become an AHIMA-approved ICD-10-CM/PCS trainer in the Fall 2011.

 
 
Patricia J. Brown, MS, RHIA

Pat Brown holds a Master’s in Computer Science and Information from Hood College, Frederick, MD, and a Bachelor of Science in Medical Record Administration from East Carolina University, Greenville, NC.  Ms. Brown has over 25 years of experience in the health information management (HIM) field.  She’s held several hospital management positions, including senior director over such departments as: HIM, Performance Improvement, Risk Management, Infection Control and Utilization Review.  She most recently held the position of Vice President and Privacy Officer for Pyramid Healthcare Solutions, a HIM consulting services company, specializing in Revenue Cycle Improvement projects, HIM Best Practices, HIM Consulting, HIM Interim Management, and HIM departmental outsourcing. Pat has also provided numerous educational sessions on HIM-related topics including Revenue Cycle, HIPAA, and JCAHO. She also has extensive experience in charge capture medical record reviews and previously taught various courses in ICD-9-CM. Ms. Brown is the Past-President of the Maryland Health Information Management Association.  She is also an excellent project manager and client liaison. Pat is attended the June 2010 AHIMA Academy for ICD-10 and is an AHIMA-approved ICD-10-CM / PCS trainer.
 
 
 Janet F. Delp, RHIT, CCS 

An accomplished consultant, Janet provides a comprehensive array of HIM and coding services, using her 25 years of experience in both government and private sector healthcare. She holds herself responsible for exceeding the expectations of her clients employing a systematic approach to identify and resolve complex coding issues. She makes the best use of time and talent to obtain best results for every project. Ms. Delp possesses an in-depth knowledge of ICD-9, CPT-4, and HCPCS as well as vast experience in data validation, coding compliance reviews, and electronic medical records.  Janet’s areas of expertise include coding and charge audits and chargemaster development and maintenance. She obtained her AA degree in Health Information Technology from Lehigh-Carbon Community College, Schnecksville, PA. She is professionally certified as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) and Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) from the American Health Information Management Association.  Janet is also an active member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association.  Janet is also an AHIMA-approved ICD-10-CM/PCS trainer.
 
 
 Elizabeth [Liz] Duggan Graham, RHIT, CCS

Elizabeth [Liz] Duggan Graham, RHIT, CCS, has over 30 years experience in healthcare as a HIM professional.  Liz obtained her AS degree in Medical Records Technology at Cypress College in Orange County, CA.  Liz brings to the company an extensive, hands-on level of understanding of medical center revenue cycle management.  Liz has collaborated with ancillary departments, clinical documentation specialists and physicians working toward more complete documentation of care and diagnoses within medical records. Liz has national consulting experience as both a coding auditor and as a regional director for three consulting firms with areas of expertise in ICD-9-CM, coding training, auditing, coding compliance, regional consultant and client management.  As a consultant, Liz has audited coding and DRG assignments at over sixty hospitals nationwide. She has conducted developed and executed training sessions designed for hospital coders and also consulting staff in order to strengthen their auditing skills. Liz has presented educational sessions for CHIA members in the area of coding and documentation. Liz is an AHIMA-approved ICD-10-CM/PCS trainer.
 

Detra Hickson, RHIA, CCS

Detra holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Information Administration (previously Medical Record Administration) from Florida A&M University, Tallahassee, FL.  Ms. Hickson has over 25 years experience in HIM and Coding.  Her vast HIM and coding experience ranges from Supervisor of Research and Quality, DRG Coordinator, Assistant Director, Associate Director, Instructor, Coder, as well as Coding Consultant.  Detra has taught numerous courses in ICD-9-CM Coding, CPT Coding, Coding and Third Party Billing, Medical Terminology, Medical Administration Principles, and Foundations of Health Information Technology.  Ms. Hickson is an expert in ICD-9 inpatient coding and auditing.  She is also an excellent project manager, trainer, and client liaison.   Detra attended the October 2010 AHIMA Academy for ICD-10 is an AHIMA-approved ICD-10-CM / PCS trainer.

  
W. Kelly McLendon, RHIA

Kelly provides leading edge consulting for EHR, EDM (Electronic Document Management) and HIM automation. Mr. McLendon has implemented an online blog and eCommerce store for EHR materials, the first of it’s kind in healthcare. Kelly is President of HIXperts, LLC which specializes in HIM operational consulting, maximizing operational efficiencies for scanning, Legal Health Record definition, MPI clean-up and other HIM - IT related processes. He has also been working with Ambulatory EHR (EMR Solutions). Mr. McLendon leads the way in innovation and expertise in this industry.  Kelly was previously V.P., Clinical HIM Strategies, Eclipsys Corporation, and was responsible for marketing and sales support activities involving HIM and clinical market space and product. Develop product plans, messages, sales campaigns and other mechanisms for delivering messages to the industry. Create presentations, write articles and perform speaking engagements to promote corporation and products. Management of sales support functions for HIM product line.  Kelly is a graduate of the University of Central Florida.  He has served on the FHIMA Board of Directors and served on as well as chaired numerous AHIMA committees and taskforces.  Mr. McLendon is a frequent speaker at the AHIMA national convention.


Peggy Meli, PhD, RHIA, LHRM

Peggy and Karen have been friends and colleagues for almost 20 years and we are thrilled that she is joining our team. For the last year Peggy has been the technical project lead for the design, development and implementation of a clinical RN training program prototype project which includes Electronic Health Record training at Lockheed Martin.  While completing her PhD in Educational Technology (ISD) at the University of Central Florida, she was the Instructional Design Expert for the American Health Information Management Association’s team working with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for an evaluation of the training needs prior to implementation of International Classification of Disease, 10th revision (ICD-10). This position required development of ICD-10-CM & PCS initial training modules. Peggy’s career has also included positions as a Clinical Instructor at Florida International University, Instructor at the University of Central Florida, and Coding Instructor at Valencia Community College as well as Health Information Management (HIM) Director for general acute care and mental health hospitals.  Peggy comes to us with a wealth of knowledge and experience.


Cassandra Moultrie, RHIA, CCS

Cassandra holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Information Administration (previously Medical Record Administration) from Florida A&M University, Tallahassee, FL.  Ms. Moultrie has over 25 years experience in HIM and Coding. Her vast HIM and coding experience ranges from Assistant Director Reimbursement Review, Reimbursement Specialist, Utilization Review Specialist, DRG Coordinator, Coding Services Manager, Coder, as well as Coding and Auditing Consultant.  Cassandra has taught numerous courses in ICD-9-CM Coding, CPT Coding, Coding and Third Party Billing, and Medical Terminology.  Ms. Moultrie is also an excellent coding auditor as well as inpatient coding specialist.   Cassandra attended the October 2010 AHIMA Academy for ICD-10 and is an AHIMA-approved ICD-10-CM / PCS trainer. 

 
 
Janice Norris, CPC, CPC-H, CCP, CHCC 

Jan Norris has over 25+ year career in Revenue Cycle Management. Her first hand experience in each and every aspect of healthcare administration allows her to "tie it all together", communicating regulatory and financial requirements to clinical and administrative personnel in an easy-to-appreciate and easy-to-apply manner. As a leading management consultant and Medicare regulatory specialist, Jan applies her extensive expertise to identify, reduce and eliminate areas of risk; strengthen workflow with education and team based processes, while increasing profitability. Ms. Norris areas of expertise include Outpatient/APC coding advisor, Hospital compliance audits, ChargeMaster reviews, and Medicare Regulatory Specialist. Jan has lectured both nationally, for both private industry and government groups. She is an active member of the AAPC, Healthcare Financial Management Association, as well as the American Health Information Management Association.
 
 
Sandra L. Roberts, BA

Sandy has over twenty-five years experience in the healthcare information systems business in complex healthcare environments.  She is the former IT manager and Interim Director of Information Systems and project manager for installation of McKesson’s HPF/HBF, document imaging / archival storage systems with integration to Cerner Millenium lab system, STAR, Medquist Transcription systems and PACS radiologist workstations. This included designing and implementing the roll out campaign to facilitate the adoption of HPF by the physician community.  Ms Roberts has effectively managed a hospital data center to include, clinical and financial application support, computer operations, custom programming, data base management; help desk and on call support with staff of eight for 198 bed hospital and 10 remote physician practice locations.  She has experience in the design, build, testing, training, implementation, troubleshooting and support of clinical and financial systems.  Sandy has managed an HIM staff of thirty, during the four-month absence of HIM department manager, through the transition to McKesson’s HPF document imaging system. During that time conducted HIM workflow assessments and implemented improvements to streamline processes for both manual and HPF environment.   Ms. Roberts has a Bachelor of Arts, St. Leo College, San Antonio, Fl with a Major in Business Administration, Minor Computer Information Systems. 

 
Gail I. Smith, MA, RHIA, CCS-P

Ms. Smith has been an HIM professional and educator for over 30 years. She was previously the Director and Associate Professor of the Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management (HIM), University of Cincinnati.  Prior to joining UC, she was the program chair of a health information technology (HIT) program and director of HIM in a multi-hospital facility. Ms. Smith has served as a coding consultant for many years and authored Basic CPT/HCPCS Coding for the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).  In addition, she served as a coding consultant and educator for the American Medical Association (AMA) for several years.  As a member of the AMA consultant team, she was responsible for physician education. Ms. Smith is an active member of AHIMA and previously served on its Board of Directors. She received her bachelor's degree from The Ohio State University and her master's degree in education from The College of Mt. St. Joseph in Cincinnati, OH.  Gail is an AHIMA-approved ICD-10-CM/PCS trainer.
 

Joy Smith, AA, CCA

Joy Smith has a 25+ year depth of experience in Healthcare Consulting, primarily in the areas of coding, abstracting, and compliance software solutions. Ms. Smith is a creative, energetic, and a skilled project manager.  She has successfully blended the clinical process with Administrative technology applications, improving both workflow and educational projects.  Joy is truly a seasoned consultant, providing excellent customer service and communication to each and every client. She is always sensitive to the customer’s bottom line, and is known for her “out of the box” economical solutions for every issue. Joy’s areas of expertise include database management within compliance audits, custom web-based trainings, and project management for revenue cycle projects and compliance audit project team liaison. Ms. Smith is an active member of AHIMA.  Joy is also an AHIMA-approved ICD-10-CM/PCS trainer.
 

Milette Watkins, RHIA, CPC


Milette holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Information Administration from Florida A&M University, Tallahassee, FL. Ms. Watkins has over 20 years experience in HIM and Coding.  Her vast experience includes Program Director Health Information Technology program, Manager Medical Records, Clinical Systems Consultant BC/BS, Assistant Director Health Records, and Coding Specialist. Ms. Watkins has extensive experience in coding within a variety of EHR and document imaging systems. Milette has taught numerous courses including Medical Terminology, Legal Aspects of Health Information, Anatomy & Physiology, HealthCare Statistics and Medical Coding. She is also an excellent outpatient coder and outpatient coding auditor. Milette attended the October 2010 AHIMA Academy for ICD-10 and is an AHIMA-approved ICD-10-CM / PCS trainer.

 

Ann Zeisset, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P


Ann has over 25 years experience in HIM and coding.  She is a nationally-recognized ICD-10-CM/PCS speaker, author, and educator.  Ann graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Leadership from Greenville College, Greenville, IL and an Associate of Science degree in Health Information Technology from Belleville Area College, Belleville, IL.  Her previous experience includes Professional Practice Manager, Products and Services, AHIMA; Director, Health Information/Utilization Management; Coding Resource Specialist; and Adjunct Faculty, Health Information Management Program, University of Cincinnati.  Ann is a nationally recognized speaker on coding related topics, including ICD-9-CM, CPT, ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS and General Equivalence Mappings (GEMs) and is an AHIMA-approved ICD-10-CM/PCS trainer.
