Detra is an AHIMA-Approved ICD-10-CM/PCS Trainer who holds a BS degree in Health Information Management, from Florida A&M University, Tallahassee, FL. She has over 30 years’ experience in HIM and Coding. Her vast HIM and Coding experience ranges from working as a DRG Coder, Supervisor of Research & Quality Control, Supervisor of DRG Control, Associate Director of Medical Records, Assistant Director of Medical Records, Adjunct Instructor, Independent Contract Coder and Coding Consultant. She has previously taught courses in Coding, Third Party Billing, Medical Terminology, Medical Administration Principles, and Foundations of Health Information Technology. Ms. Hickson is an expert in ICD-10 and CPT Coding and Auditing. She’s also an excellent project manager, trainer, and client liaison.
Monica is a health information management professional who works in partnership with healthcare systems to meet established coding accuracy and compliance goals. With over 20 years in the HIM profession working in the roles of coding management, education, and consulting, she utilizes that experience to build an effective relationship with clients and identify opportunities for continued team growth and education, all while maintaining and encouraging a positive learning environment. Monica is an AHIMA-Approved ICD-10 CM/PCS Trainer and holds the credentials of RHIT (registered health information technician) and CCS (certified coding specialist).
Marci is an accomplished consultant with a strong background in the healthcare industry with over 27 years’ experience. She has a proven record in auditing and coding operations in payer, hospital, and office environments. In addition to her coding certifications, Marci is accredited as a Health Care Fraud Investigator (AHFI) through NHCAA and holds a certificate as an ICD-10 CM/PCS trainer from AHIMA. Marci holds a Master of Science in Clinical Practice Management from Texas Tech Health Science Center, Lubbock, TX and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from West Texas A&M University, Canyon, TX. Some areas of comprehensive audit completions have been fraud waste, abuse, error for Medicaid and Medicare Advantage and commercial products.
Ms. Youmans holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from St. John’s University and a Master of Arts degree from New York University. She was first exposed to coding as a child when she used to sit in the back of her mother’s classroom at the University of Central Florida and has been involved with YES HIM Consulting, Inc. since its inception in February 2007. She has assumed a number of roles including web designer, data analyst, and assistant director of coding education services.
Ms. Youmans is a proud product of YES HIM Consulting, Inc. education, academies, and Career Step partner programs. She holds the Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), and AHIMA-Approved ICD-10-CM/PCS Trainer credentials. She is currently attending Weber State University’s Post-Bachelor’s Certificate program in Health Information Management with an RHIA pending 2018.
Mary Carpenter is a revenue cycle executive having spent more than 30 years working in all aspects of revenue cycle operations for health systems, physician practices, academic medical centers and community based hospitals. Ms. Carpenter has worked on dozens of engagements where she led or contributed to the Revenue Cycle improvement, implementation or management efforts. Highlights of her work include:
Prior to consulting, Ms. Carpenter served in progressively responsible roles supporting and managing business office and revenue cycle responsibilities in positions such as Physician Biller, Patient Accounts Manager, Operations Manager and Director Revenue Cycle. Ms. Carpenter holds a BA in Health Administration from De Paul University and is an active member of HFMA, MGMA, as well as a fellow for the American College of Healthcare Executives.
Ms. Kelly holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Information Management from the University of Central Florida. Elizabeth has 25 years of experience in acute care facilities, with a variety of roles within the acute care setting ranging from Transcription Manager, IT Project Manager to HIM Director of a 320 bed acute care facility. She is an experienced leader in HIM with an excellent record of successfully managing multiple facilities volume and operations including JCAHO, coding, cancer registry, medical library, accredited CME program, transcription, as well as privacy officer.
She has extensive experience with health information management technology, particularly in the areas of electronic health record, transcription, dictation, CDI and coding, and has expertise in implementation of computer systems for Health Information Management. She was named Outstanding New Professional and Outstanding Professional by FHIMA and served as Committee Chairman on several FHIMA committees. Elizabeth is a member of AHIMA and past President of SWFHIMA.
Ann has over 30 years’ experience in HIM and coding. She is a nationally-recognized ICD-10-CM/PCS speaker, author, and educator. Ann graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Leadership from Greenville College, Greenville, IL and an Associate of Science degree in Health Information Technology from Belleville Area College, Belleville, IL. Her previous experience includes Professional Practice Manager, Products and Services, AHIMA; Director, Health Information/Utilization Management; Coding Resource Specialist; and Adjunct Faculty, Health Information Management Program, University of Cincinnati. Ann is a speaker and author on coding related topics, including ICD-9-CM, CPT, ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS and General Equivalence Mappings (GEMs) and is an AHIMA-approved ICD-10-CM/PCS trainer.
Leigh holds a Bachelors of Science Degree in Health Information Management from Louisiana Tech University. She has 16 years of experience working in HIM and Coding. Leigh has worked as a coder, coding supervisor, and director of HIM in a 250 bed acute care facility. She has experience in an acute care setting, behavioral health, and a physician-owned ambulatory surgery center. Leigh moved into a corporate HIM role for several years and had the opportunity to oversee the auditing and coding education for HIM operations. The education included monthly coding audio seminars, weekly CCS prep newsletters, and bimonthly coding newsletters addressing coding hot topics.
Leigh worked closely with HIM directors, supervisors, and coders in 16 facilities in 6 different states. Leigh has been the presenter the last three years at the AHIMA National Conference. She has also been faculty for an AHIMA Audioseminar and has had the pleasure to write articles for AHIMA CodeWrite. Leigh is an AHIMA Approved ICD-10-CM/PCS Trainer and has traveled the United States and Internationally for the past two years presenting ICD-10-CM/PCS Bootcamps.
Therese "Teri" is an HIM Educator and Trainer in ICD-10-CM/PCS and HCPCS/CPT coding for YES HIM Consulting, Inc. Teri is an experienced educator and consultant with over 30 years in academic, consulting, and vendor roles. She has been leading educational efforts in ICD-10-CM/PCS since 2009, serving as one of the original external faculty members for the AHIMA Academies. Her text, co-authored with Lynn Kuehn, ICD-10-PCS: An Applied Approach, was the recipient of the 2014 AHIMA Literary Legacy Award. Teri is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago leading campus and online classes in ICD-10-CM/PCS and HCPCS/CPT coding and classification systems. Teri has received the Amoco Silver Circle, Excalibur and Educator of the Year awards for teaching at UIC.
Active in local, state and national HIM associations, Teri the past president and recipient of the Distinguished Member award for both the Chicago Area and Illinois Health Information Management Associations, and past Chairman of several of AHIMA’s Practice Councils. Teri received her Bachelor’s in Health Information Management and Master of Public Health in Health Services Administration from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She is an AHIMA-Approved ICD-10-CM/PCS Trainer, Certified Coding Specialist, Certified Coding Specialist-Physician Based and a Fellow of AHIMA.
Susan is an AHIMA approved ICD-10 CM/PCS Trainer who has held positions in HIM such as Director of HIM, Assistant Director of HIM, DRG Coordinator and HSRO Coordinator which included Quality Assurance, Utilization Review and Risk Management for over 25 years. She earned her RHIT very early in her career and then went on to obtain her BS in Medical Record Administration from the University of Central Florida and became an RHIA. She worked as a VP of Marketing for a group of physicians in a consulting firm in Atlanta focusing on physician education She has also worked as a Manager of Business Development for a national consulting firm.
Pat Brown holds a Master’s in Computer Science and Information from Hood College, Frederick, MD, and a Bachelor of Science in Medical Record Administration from East Carolina University, Greenville, NC. Ms. Brown has over 25 years of experience in the health information management (HIM) field. She’s held several hospital management positions, including senior director over such departments as: HIM, Performance Improvement, Risk Management, Infection Control and Utilization Review. She most recently held the position of Vice President and Privacy Officer for Pyramid Healthcare Solutions, a HIM consulting services company, specializing in Revenue Cycle Improvement projects, HIM Best Practices, HIM Consulting, HIM Interim Management, and HIM departmental outsourcing.
Pat has also provided numerous educational sessions on HIM-related topics including Revenue Cycle, HIPAA, and JCAHO. She also has extensive experience in charge capture medical record reviews and previously taught various courses in ICD-9-CM. Ms. Brown is the Past-President of the Maryland Health Information Management Association. She is also an excellent project manager and client liaison. Pat attended the June 2010 AHIMA Academy for ICD-10 and is an AHIMA-approved ICD-10-CM / PCS trainer.
Ms. Jarvis has 20+ years of experience working within the HIM profession. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Information Management as well as a Master of Science degree in Health Services Administration from the University of Central Florida. For over 13 years, Tara worked in a variety of roles within the acute care setting ranging from Supervisor to Service Line Manager. She is a proficient professional with extensive expertise in project management, personnel management and compliance. For four years, Tara moved into the education setting and was a National Program Director for a Health Information Technology Program and an Associate Dean. She has served twice as the past President of CFHIMA. Tara is very active in FHIMA having served many times as a Committee Chairman for a variety of committees, as well as a Director. In 2003, Tara received the FHIMA Distinguished Service Award. She is an active member of AHIMA and IFHIMA.
John Franz is the Director of Coding Operations with YES HIM Consulting, Inc. based in Largo, Florida. He has over 30 years of HIM experience with a strong interest in Coding and Management. His previous employers include St. Vincent’s Health Care, Mayo Clinic, Florida Hospital, and HCA.
John attended University of Central Florida where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Record Administration. This was followed by a Master of Business Administration from the University of Tampa. Other credentials include Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), and he holds an ICD-10-CM/PCS Trainer Certificate.
Ms. Davis holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Information Management from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC. She has in depth knowledge of health information operations with an emphasis on coding and reimbursement and significant experience with implementation of quality improvement systems to comply with Joint Commission and regulatory agency standards. Amy has been a Manager of Coding and Operations in an acute care setting and has assisted with implementation and training on the Cerner Document Imaging System and managing the Recovery Audit process. She has worked as an independent coding consultant, coding specialist, case mix manager and DRG validation analyst. She has taught coding and medical terminology classes and participated in the clinical documentation improvement process. Amy is an AHIMA-approved ICD-10-CM/PCS Trainer and a Clinical Documentation Improvement Practitioner.
JJ Crumbley is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) who works as the Director, Project Management & Operations delivering guidance beginning with strategic initiation through quality execution. Most recently JJ has spent the last year guiding Schumacher Clinical Partners through a successful strategic design and creation of their Post Acute Care Program. He brings with him to YES HIM Consulting eight years of experience integrating project management and client-centered consulting skills to deliver comprehensive systems-based solutions.
Prior to joining YES HIM Consulting, he worked for a nationwide Hospital and Emergency Medicine staffing company named Schumacher Clinical Partners as well as a large multi-hospital healthcare system in Tampa, FL named BayCare Health Systems. JJ has experience managing and executing on high-level hospital and health system initiatives including project management activities, strategic planning activities, Clinical Documentation Improvement implementations, large-scale CPOE activations, inventory and finance management, and Cerner EMR management. JJ holds an undergraduate degree in Business Administration and Finance as well as a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Florida Gulf Coast University.
Ms. Trowbridge has over 20 years of experience in administrative support positions. She has worked for both medium and large healthcare consulting firms that conduct business nationwide. She uses her analytical skills to complete complex tasks and solve problems while "thinking outside the box". While working in the Health Information Management (HIM) industry, she has received training in Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) policies, and understands the importance of privacy and confidentiality and is an AHIMA approved ICD-10-CM/PCS Trainer. Nikki is a great asset to our team. She is an active member of AHIMA and SHRM (Society of Human Resources Management).

Karen has over 30 years of experience in the healthcare environment and the HIM/Coding profession. Ms. Youmans' stellar career has also included Executive Vice President of a national healthcare consulting firm; Assistant Professor at the University of Central Florida; and Coding Product Consultant and Client Resource Specialist for an encoder company. Her current expertise is focused on Coding Education & Training, as well as Coding Compliance Audits. Karen is a well-known expert speaker and has made numerous presentations at GCHIMA, FHIMA, and AHIMA.
