2022: A Crucial Year for Coding Updates
The year 2022 was a crucial year for the healthcare industry overall, as well as for the medical coding field. There was an abundant amount of coding updates released to report changes to telehealth services and COVID-19 treatments and tests. Additionally, the annual updates experienced some unprecedented changes.
Starting in 2022, ICD-10 will have two implementation dates for coding changes: April 1 and October 1. This change allows for a more flexible update process. There were more than 400 updates to the CPT code set in 2022 for telehealth, COVID-19, digital medicine, Category III codes, and more.
