2025 ICD-10-PCS Updates Include 371 Additions & 61 Deletions
The 2025 ICD-10-PCS updates have been released with a comprehensive addendum outlining the updates for the coming fiscal year, including index, reference and tables addenda. Of note there are no changes to the Official ICD-10-PCS Coding Guidelines for October 1, 2024.
With the addition of 371 new and the deletion of 61 codes, the FY 2025 code set includes 78,948 ICD-10-PCS codes. New codes are effective on October 1, 2024. YES HIM Consulting will have a comprehensive presentation on the 2025 ICD-10-PCS updates to prepare for these changes.
2025 Medical and Surgical Section Updates
One of the key features of the ICD-10-PCS system is the ability to easily add new code tables and character values to existing tables to reflect procedures performed via updated codes. The 2025 code set includes many of these updates.
In the Medical and Surgical section, a new code for Stereoelectroencephalographic Radiofrequency Ablation of the brain is included, as well as a code for Connectomic Analysis brain Mapping. A qualifier for lower arteries was added for the hepatic and splenic arteries in the Bypass table for these body parts, and a new code table for Bypass in the Lymphatic and Hemic Systems was created.
Current New Technology X codes for Dilation of selected lower arteries were deleted, and new codes created in the Medical and Surgical section for Dilation of these body parts with the qualifier sustained release.
The updates added approach value 8, via natural or artificial opening endoscopic, for the Removal and Revision tables for the body part values of gallbladder and pancreas in the Hepatobiliary System and Pancreas body system. This will allow for the coding of procedures such as Removal and Revision of lumen-apposing stents (LAMS) from these areas.
The 2025 changes added a qualifier value for Lumbar Artery Perforator (LAP) Flap in the Replacement table for the breast body parts autologous tissue substitute device to code these types of breast reconstruction procedures. The device value for external fixation device is added to both the Removal and Revision tables for the nasal and facial bone body parts in the Head and Facial Bones body system for coding of these procedures.
2025 Medical and Surgical Related Sections Updates
In the Medical and Surgical related sections, a new qualifier for peripheral veno-venous is added to the Extracorporeal Assistance for intraoperative circulatory filtration for the use of systems such as the Angio Vac to treat a venous thromboembolism. In the Other Procedures section, a new device value for Fiberoptic 3D Guided Procedure is added for the circulatory body region to reflect an additional code for endovascular repairs performed using techniques such as the LumiGuide.
2025 New Technology Section Updates
The New Technology X Section has most of the changes for FY 2025. Just a few of these updates include the addition of new codes for radiofrequency ablation Destruction of renal sympathetic nerves, intraluminal bioprosthetic leaflet splitting technique for Division of the aortic valve. This is a new device value for genetically engineered autologous cell therapy for skin Replacement and a new device value for Fusion of ankle joints for a Gyroid-Sheet Lattice Design to provide stabilization of the hindfoot and ankle.
As in the past, there are several therapeutic substances added to the Introduction and Transfusion code tables in the New Technology section, as well as new codes for Monitoring and Measurement of the Circulatory and Central Nervous Systems.
