The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has posted the ICD-10-CM 2024 codes for use by all provider types, including Inpatient and Outpatient. The updates include 395 new codes and 25 deletions in 17 different chapters of ICD-10-CM.
CMS updated the 2024 CMS-HCC risk adjustment model by including reliable predictors of future costs and excluding unreliable ones. In summary, the CY2024 CMS-HCC model classifies the ~74,000 ICD-10-CM diagnoses codes into 266 CMS-HCCs.
CMS released the FY 2024 ICD-10-PCS file in June. With 78 new codes and five deletions, the total number of ICD-10-PCS codes for 2024 is 78,603. There were also 14 code title revisions. All these changes are effective on October 1, 2023.
